Bill Bagwell – Custom Orders

Note: Blaydz Purveyors is pleased to represent Bladesmith Bill Bagwell. We can fill small orders from reasonable stock on hand, shortening the usual order time (which could be as long as two years) to only a few months. We can also facilitate custom orders, moving your spot up a few spaces! If you would like to know more, please contact us. At this time (May 10, 2013), due to health reasons, Bill will not be able to begin any custom work at least until another three months.

Please note: Bill requires the measurements of your hand, wrist, height, and shoe size – specs which all have a bearing upon the optimal weight and design for your unique body shape.

Just contact us if you would like to place a custom order.

I am interested in having a custom Hell’s Belle Bowie made by Mr. Bagwell and was wondering what the average price runs and the wait time. Thanks!

James, we may have inadvertently overlooked your inquiry. For that I apologize. For health reasons, Bill’s time line is a bit delayed right now (until another three months), but we do have two Hells Belle knives of his (in Damascus) in stock. One for $4,000 and one for $3,000.

I watched Bill making one of his first Damascus steel blades. He was living and working near Trees, LA. I was pastor of the local Baptist church there and John Peas and I went by his shop as he was bending and pounding out the small blend of steel and iron. John later did some work For Bill and Bill presented him with his first Damascus steel knife and a letter of authenticity.
This has ever been a proud piece in his collection. I would love to have done something that valuable to have earned such a proud possession. This was about 1972 also. Bill was bigger than life way back then. What a wonderful experience meeting Bill Bagwell and watching the man in his craft! This first blade was only about 3 inches long but had the looks and function of a beautiful Damascus steel blade.

      Thank you, Durand.
You will be, I think, pleased to know that Bill is still hard at work making blades in Damascus, as well as carbon steel.
And just as he was improving his creations as he was when you knew him, he is constantly improving and refining his knives. He considers his present work the best he has ever done. We can’t help but agree,

I am interested in having a custom Bagwell Hell’s Bell made. How do we go about getting it done?

    • August 13, 2014 at 10:27 am

We have three Bagwell Bowies in stock right now, unfortunately they are not Hell’s Belles. You can order one from Bill through me but the timing will have to be worked out, as he has a few knives that he has to get to. It would be best to call me at 201-857-2162 to discuss specifics.

Steve – if you would be so kind as to say hello and thank you to Bill for me. In ’81 he made a custom bowie for a young Marine and i still have that treasured knife. I am thankful to Bill for the time he took to correspond with me and to help explain the best type of fighting knife. My knife was never used in a fight but it did make two Mediterranean floats and an extended stay in beirut. The knife and original sheath have held up all these years. Thanks Bill. – brad

I would like to have a Damascus Hells Belle made by Bill .He has made 2 knives for me in the past. It is strange but my hand wrist, height, and shoe size is the sane as his. If he keeps records of past knives my name is Tony Jackson, I can be reached at
